The reason we have a problem with depression in this country is that most people cannot afford the treatment or even find treatment. You wait for at least 2 years to get into a psychiatrist and it is the same to find a good psychologist who cost $150 an hour which medicare does not cover. Also they cannot give medication because they are not medical Drs. You are left to go to a GP who does not get the training in medical school to treat this disease. They just dispense drugs which is not enough. Talk therapy is part of the treatment. It is shocking that there is not more funding for this pervasive disease and so difficult to get or even find help. Therapy needs to be more available to the average public. Even parents who are enlightened and aware are frustrated at the lack of medical care for this terrible disease.

When something this important is being discussed even someone like me can push that inner depresson frozen self to express my support for youth experiencing , depression or suicide.
Life was always difficult for me from the time i was very young though I didn't nor did anyone else recognize depression as the problem. My mother says I was either very up or down. Life was indeed hard when I was down, like the worst winter storm, but the creativity and grand feeling of being up, the warmest summer day on the beach, made me feel I could change the world.
Unfortunately a day or two of cold dark weather can shatter how I feel and put me into bed eventually. I liken how sun affects me as the way kryptonite gives Superman his power. I haven't been able to measure anything but it's like magic. A period in the sun and I am strong and raking leaves or gardening, amazing.
How drugs do or don't help, well....another topic.
Between being up and down and either cold and dark or hot and joyful life is experienced like a patchwork quilt. There is much more to tell, lung removal and how it took a slice of my life 10 years ago as I survived cancer is another journey.
There must be a reason for this life I live but sometimes I am powerless to recognize it. When there is someone who needs encouragement or hope somehow I can find that for them. I am hopeful on all counts and as suicide has always been there like a dark tool in the corner of the basement of my mind but I've been helped to keep it put away most of the time.
May your guests know we all care and are here though we haven't found one another yet.
Thank you all.
